Match 1: DJK 138/10 v MCC 123/6
Match 2: MCC 129/8 v DJK 49 all out
Match 1
In suboptimal weather conditions at the Hirsh MCC looked to get a couple more wins on the board early in the season. Captain Jonty took the toss and MCC took to the field. The bowling was opened up by Sunny from the ‘City’ end and the captain himself from the ‘Beer Fridge’ end. Impeccable line and length from Jonty (2-20) gave MCC the early breakthrough, unfortunately not well supported by the following bowling changes (author included). Signs of a long off-season showed with some not-the-most-accurate bowling giving the evergreen batsmans, Mr. W. Ide, the title of second top scorer for Würmtal.
With Würmtal threatening to run away with the game MCC countered with some sharp fielding, resulting in 3 run-outs, and some tight(-er) bowling from Suchit (2-22) and Steve (2-23). MCC ultimately being set a sporting 139 to chase.
The opening pair of Jonty 37 (36) and Mucca 31 (47) strolled out cautiously but confident to start the chase on a classic early-season Flix green top. Some power hitting from both openers kept the run rate above the required (a big factor considering the weather) and set up the chase nicely with MCC cruising with 0/71 on the board at the 9.5ov mark, unfortunately then losing the first wicket at the 9.6ov mark. The middle order struggled to’ get in’ on a tricky pitch, the run rate slowed and MCC fell 15 runs short. Honorable mention to Suchit 13 (19) and late power hitting of Priyansh 10 (4).
Match 2
After a short between game turnaround Jonty won the toss and kept Würntal in the field. The unchanged opening pair of Jonty and Mucca (once located) headed out to start the MCC innings. After an unlucky Mucca being runout in the first over Jonty and Priyansh went about setting a competitive total nicely with scores of 32 (30) and 16 (20) respectively. After some middle-overs consolidation MCC closed out the innings with some beautiful batting from Amol 18 (16) and Steve 18* (11), who seemed to be finding the boundary with ease, setting Würmtal 130 to chase down for the win.
With the frustrations of game 1 as motivation, Mucca and Sunny opened the attack with some sublime bowling. Sunny (0-14 4ov.) mounting pressure ball after ball with good pace being delivered unplayably, Mucca (4-13 3 ov), targeting the stump with the stock inswingers, cashed in with 4 wickets within the first 4.1 overs. Supported by greated fielding Würmtal was left reeling at 5-19 after approximately 5 overs. MCC, tasting blood, didn’t relent, more pressure resulting in more runouts (Amol ending the day with 3 himself) and more tight bowling from Steve (1-8) and Suchit (2-1) MCC cruised to an easy 80 run win.
