A wonderful spring day with temperatures well above 20C saw us heading hopefully to the vicinity of the Forschungsbrauerei for a bat-as-many- as-you-have, but only field 11 at any one time, 35 over friendly against Serendib in Neu Perlach.
Captain Weston was late so MCCII vice-captain Kantor duly lost the toss and we were asked to field, opening the bowling with Qureshi and Blades and it took until the 15th ball before a wide was bowled. The first wicket fell to Qureshi with the score on 36 after 8.2 overs. At the end of the over their second opener retired to give others – they had 14 batsmen – a chance. They were 46 for 3 and then 46 for 4 after 11.3 overs but then Peter Adit and Tharka put on 49 for the fifth before Adit was caught Butt, bowled Sestan for 32. Tharka and Beringer put on 39 for the 6th, Bhat bowling Anthony for 34 in the 23rd over.Tharka retired for 26 at the end of the 25th over leaving them 153 for seven down. Their 13th wicket fell in the 35th over with the score on 201.
MCc openers Weston and Altmann decided they wanted to finish early and watch the final of the world T20 and the score was 11 for 2 down after 2.5 overs. After 5.1 overs Kantor departed with the score on 20 and after 8.2 overs with the score on 36 Qureshi went too. Alagh really wanted to watch the T20 and went first ball with the score still on 36. There was a minor recovery of 10 runs before Otmankhil left and then a huge 17 run partnership for the 7th when Butt had a bummer of a run out, a straight drive from Deverill being deflected by the bowler onto the wicket at the non-strikers end. Deverill went one riun later and after two more runs Blades too departed. Sestan hung around for 17 balls and left next having scored two followed by Hashimi, who also scored two leaving Bhat and Mudassir to a add on a 48 run 12th wicket partnership with Mudassir in particular giving the full McCullum – or perhaps the full Brathwaite now. MCC were all out for 125 in 28.2 overs.
