The party, including those playing for Tegernsee II arrived in drips and drabs throughout the day on Friday and checked into rooms of various standard in the Convict guesthouse. Some went for a pizza dinner, the remainder went to the Dorta and spent all their money in the restaurant there. The paupers with the pizzas sallied on to the Dorta afterwards for a few drinks and chat but, surprisingly for a Friday night, it was almost empty. Basel were to travel up on Saturday morning, Lodi were staying in another village so it turned out to be an early night ready for the tournament to begin at 9.30 on Saturday morning. Heavy rain had begun late on Friday afternoon and it continued throughout the night but did ease off somewhat for the first matches to start. Because of the rain the organisers had decided to serve lunch up in the Lyceum Alpinum rather than set up a stand at the ground.
Captain Weston won the toss and chose to bat in moderate rain which increased in intensity as the game progressed. Due to the conditions the match had been reduced to 20 overs per innings. MCC openers, Algar and Weston set off at a good pace putting on 51 before Algar went for 3 off 17 balls in the 7th over – a case of hogging the strike here methinks! Clare came to the crease and scored 10 off 10 balls but was out caught in the 11th over. Goldsack replaced him and put on 61 for the third wicket with Weston who fell in the 19th over for 82. Fudge went for 2, also in the 19th over, leaving Embleton and Goldsack to take the total to 144 in the 20 overs.
Tegernsee were always up with the run rate but lost wickets regularly, the first two falling in the seventh over, both to Garner with the score on 45 and 46 respectively. This was the highest partnership of their innings, the next best being the 5th and 6th wickets which put on 28 and 29 runs respectively. Garner and Goldsack alliterated in G and took three wickets each, Clare chipped in with two and Blades and Hobbs took one apiece.
A bedraggled MCC then retired to the Lyceum for a rather tasty lunch
